Sounds weird, huh? Forget what you’ve heard about it–witchcraft, voodoo…whatever gross mischaracterizations are out there, and let me give you a brief explanation as to why you might find it beneficial.
Face it. Our world is crazy. The sheer speed of it keeps all of us constantly keyed up, waiting for the next thing to jump off. We’ve adjusted, so most of us think we’re fine, but we really aren’t. Your headache, weight gain, or sugar issues can all be tracked back to stress!
The body wasn’t designed for it.
I know. In the US we were all trained to be do-ers. Never rest. If you do, you’re lazy. What has that gotten us? A nation of chronically ill people. It is stillness, peace, quiet that builds the foundation for activity. We’ve been doing it backwards. Grind, grind, grind, then be still if you have time. We failed to understand that all of our power lies in internal stillness. Being still internally allows our cells to perform their metabolic functions perfectly, giving us more energy and vitality. It’s where creativity springs forth from. Stillness is the seat of our intuition, which guides us to make right decisions. It is where we hear the voice of God. Living in constant chaos as we’ve been trained to do interferes with those basic and what should be natural processes.

Einstein told us that everything is energy with his famous equation E=mc2. He was way ahead of his time and we’re really just now beginning to understand what he was really talking about. Scientists are starting to make the connection that his equation also applied to us.
We are energy, my Friends. The vibration is slowed or stepped down so that we are perceived as matter.
What the hell does this have to do with Aum chants? Lol.
Because we are energy, the benefit to Aum chanting is that it positively affects your rate of vibration. It adjusts your frequency, some say tuning it to 432 Hz which is the frequency of stillness or the sound of nature or the Universe. It’s the frequency that is there when nothing else is. Chanting Aum fortifies your mind and body with the power of this frequency. It is essentially a tuning fork for us human beings.

There’s scientific data that points to the benefits of listening to music or pure frequency at 432 Hz. People report feeling less stress, sleeping better and this brief study showed that 432 Hz was able to lower anxiety and stress levels. (It recommended a larger study).
And here’s one showing the effects of listening to 432 Hz on sleep.
I’ll try to tie a bow on this thing.
In this high stress world we need ways to calm our spirits. While not the only way, Aum chanting is a great way to begin the practice of internal stillness. 432 Hz does a lot of things spiritually–it tunes up the chakras or energy centers in the body, aligns you with Universal energy and knowledge, and if that’s too ooey-fooey for you, it tones the Vagus nerve. What’s that you ask? It’s one of the most important components of the human body. It’s a large nerve that runs from the brain stem down your neck, chest and stomach. It controls your parasympathetic nervous system and involuntary bodily functions like your heart rate. Lots of important stuff, and when it’s off you will experience things like anxiety, stress, digestion issues, heart palpitations and other scary symptoms. Meditation calms your Vagus nerve, but it also needs a little massage from time to time to keep it healthy. This is where Aum chanting comes in. As you chant Aum you can feel the vibration of the intonation internally…toning, relaxing, clearing. If done right it’s an extremely pleasurable experience.
All it requires is a tiny window of time and your voice and you can usher in a world of peace and prosperity. Aum chanting not only relaxes you but it tunes you to Divine energy, balances your parasympathetic nervous system and creates inner stillness and that inner stillness is the place from which all your blessings will flow.
Here’s how:
Sit quietly.
Open your mouth and utter the sound, “Ahhh.”
Slowly begin closing your mouth and you will utter the sound, “Oooo.”
Close your mouth and with your lips pursed utter the sound, “Mmmm.”
So essentially Ahh-ooo-mmm. You should feel the vibration moving through three areas of the body. It will start in your lower abdomen, move up through your chest and on up to your nasal cavity. Ahh, ooo, mmm.
Repeat the sound in blocks of 8, 21 or longer if you have time.
And there you have it. Here’s a recording so you can hear how it should sound.
